Iowa State Fair, Part 1

Today I went to the Iowa State Fair. Today was the first day of the fair. I went with my grandma, my cousin, my brother and my mom.

We took a ride on a golf cart. And we stopped at a place with a giant, chocolate moose! I think it was weird and yummy.

In that building they have food that people make and are trying to win a competition. Then two people that my mom knew were selling their cookbook. I don't remember the name. (Typist's note: the cookbook is Two Chicks from the Sticks and it is awesome with tons of great baking recipes!) They gave me $5 to get something sweet and eat it and review it on their blog. This will be the first time I've done a blog for someone else. I'll let you know when it's on their site.

Then I went and got on a vehicle and drove it around. It was a police car. It was a fake one. And I drove good. But Bo crashed into things a whole bunch! Do you think he's a bad driver? I think he's a terrible driver!

Then we went to find some food. We found hotwings. So I ate some. They tasted hot. There wasn't sauce on them. They weren't like with the sauce, that kind. I got them from a Chinese food restaurant. They tasted spicy and that was their main flavor. Maybe go to a different place for hotwings.

Then my mom got cheese balls and vegetable French bread pizza. The cheese balls tasted like normal cheese balls from Starbucks but maybe a little better. The vegetable pizza taste good too, like normal pizza except with all vegetables. Instead of a crust it was French bread.

Then I got some chili cheese fries because I wanted some french fries. And I didn't think the fair had it, but they did. So I went to see how they were made. The biggest buckets were giant! Even the little ones were pretty big. At first they were really hot but then they were not that hot. They were really good against other cheese fries. Some don't have nacho cheese, but these did and it had chili with beans. I don't think other chili cheese fries have a lot of beans like these did. They were the best beans. I think you should go get some, but they're only at the state fair. They were kind of by the Drake Administration Building, my mom says. Just east of the Varied Industries Building.

In this next picture I'm waving my fan at my face because I was hot and I was resting against a tree because that's kind of fun, for me. We were going to the Big Slide.

The Big Slide is awesome! And you should go on it because when I went on it, I put my hands up and I was jumping on it! Like when I was going down the hills I bounced off of my mat a little bit. You are supposed to climb like a million steps to get up the slide, and you have to pay a ticket for each child going on it. Like if you have two children, you have to get two tickets. You should go on it because it's awesome.

 Giant Slide!

After the slide we went to an ice cream place. I got an ice cream swirl cone. And it was really, really good. A swirl is where you have chocolate ice cream and vanilla ice cream and swirl it up in the same cone.

This is the end of part 1. To be continued......

Chili Cheese Guys

Tomorrow I'm going to the 100-mile garage sale (also known as the Hwy 141 Garage Sale) with my dad. I'm looking for Pokemon cards, Star Wars stuff and other cool things I can't think of. I got a lot of jewelry at last year's and it was fun. It's not in Des Moines. It's not in one town. You go to different towns and look at sales in people's garages. And you might find cool stuff, but not at all the garage sales.

And now here is the place I went today for food.

Today I got my lunch at Wendy’s. I got chili cheese fries and a cheeseburger. And I got iced tea to drink.

In general, I like chili cheese fries very much. The first time I had chili cheese fries was at Adventureland  by the water ride close to the end of the park. And they had a little restaurant there and I saw them on a little menu thing. I thought they looked good, so I asked if I could have them. And then I got them, and I liked them a lot and my cousins liked them, too.

I’ve also had them at Hardee’s, but Hardee’s’ didn’t have the chili but they had bacon which tasted great, great, great! I’ve also had them at Starbucks in Nevada. Starbucks is not the coffee place, it’s a little restaurant in Nevada. They serve tenderloins and cheeseburgers, and they also serve chili cheese fries.

Wendy’s chili cheese fries are really cheesy, they have a lot of chili on them, and they taste delicious. But the cheese is nacho cheese. (You know what the nacho cheese is like, the “sauce” cheese?) The chili is kind of spicy, there are beans, and there is meat. And it’s good chili, it’s not burnt chili. Overall, the chili cheese fries taste great. Anyway, that’s my chili cheese fry story.

The cheeseburger tastes like a normal cheeseburger. (Well, that’s what all cheeseburgers taste like). It had cheese, meat, lettuce, ketchup, onions and tomatoes.  It tastes good, really good! One of the best cheeseburgers I’ve had at a fast food restaurant.

My drink is iced tea, and it is my favorite kind of tea.  It’s a good thing it wasn’t sweet tea, I hate that! Sweet tea doesn’t taste good at all! Here’s a funny little story. Once when my mom was ordering her food at KFC, she got iced tea for her drink. And then, in the van, when she tasted it, it was sweat tea, and I thought, “What does that taste like?” So I asked if I could have a sip, and it tasted so terrible I asked if I could have another terrible sip. And, that’s happened quite a lot though, to my mom.

Restaurant Rating: Thumbs Up

Final Thoughts:  Please make sure to try the chili cheese fries, you might like them and come back for more!

From the Archives: Stars Don't Have Bucks on Them

Today for lunch I went to Starbucks. It is not the coffee Starbucks; it is a restaurant Starbucks that has been around for 35 years in Nevada, Iowa. We went in and found our table. We waited for our food. We got cheeseballs, chili cheese fries and a bacon cheeseburger for me.

The first time I ever had chili cheese fries was last year at Adventureland. It was a day when it was raining. We went to the place where they serve food. My cousins Kael and Theron were there. Me and  Kael saw the picture of them and we wanted it, so we ordered them. It was waffle fries with chili and nacho cheese on them. Me and Kael ate them in no time. They were delicious. So then that tells you how they tasted at Starbucks, too. They were thin fries at Starbucks and shredded cheddar instead of nacho cheese. I like both of them. I can't make up my mind which is best.

I tried the cheeseballs. They were breaded on the outside and cheesy on the inside. They were good. Theron has had them before so she knows what they taste like. I had a bacon cheeseburger. It tasted like a normal cheeseburger with ketchup and mustard, except it had bacon on it. It tasted great! I've had them before, like at the food festival in Des Moines, Iowa. And I also got one at Americana restaurant, which is in the restaurant reviews, too.

My drink was Diet Mountain Dew. It isn't that good for you, but it tastes good. But you can only have it once in awhile. After I ate my food I got an ice cream swirl, with chocolate and vanilla, with a cone, too. The ice cream was delicious. And then after that we left.
It is my spring break this week. So that's why I was up in Nevada with my grandma, my grandpa and Shawn. Tomorrow I'm going to a Korean restaurant!

Restaurant rating: Thumbs Up!
You should go to Nevada, Iowa, and eat at Starbucks. Get the ice cream twist cone -- any kind you like because they taste great and the swirls always taste like a new flavor. See you next time on my next restaurant reviews!
